If you’re thinking about joining a new gym or fitness program in Omaha, there’s a good possibility that one of your highest objectives is to lose weight. But what does losing weight really incorporate? Is there a difference between losing weight and losing fat?
Weight loss isn’t the same as fat loss. It’s important to realize the difference to help you reach your goals. And keep them.
Your body’s total weight includes bones, organs, muscles, fat and water. Losing weight might result in a lighter number on the scale, but weight loss doesn’t automatically mean you’re healthy. Less muscle tissue also leads to reduced absorption of nutrients. When your body can’t correctly get the nutrients it has to have, it holds on to your food as fat deposits, in place of using the food like fuel. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body can use. This is true when you’re not active.
When you lose weight, you also shed water. Your muscles are 70% H2O and dropping under that composition brings on dehydration and muscle loss. Ultimately, it may cause muscle atrophy, which further decreases your metabolic rate.
The most accurate method of analyzing your body structure is body fat percentage. Think about two individuals. Both are an identical height and weight, but one has a decreased body fat percentage.
While both adults weigh the same amount on the scale, their internal body fat composition is different. The person with a smaller amount of body fat will likely be stronger since they have a greater concentration of muscle. Due to this, they’ll wear a smaller shirt and pant size since they have a smaller percentage of fat.
So, what’s the best way to lose weight? By following strength training to build muscle while simultaneously burning fat. We suggest following a fitness program that you enjoy. HIIT, or high intensity interval training, is scientifically proven to torch fat and improve your metabolic rate.
Whatever workout program you follow, it’s crucial to fuel with a good diet and adequate hydration.
Stop Using the Scale
We recommend ditching the scale, because it isn’t a total measurement of your body’s composition. When you use it next, ask yourself, does it really matter how much I weigh? Or do you care more about enjoying the way your clothes look when you get dressed every morning?
