There’s more to your well-being than just training and eating healthy fare. Taking a comprehensive approach to your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is essential for your overall wellness. We like to term this as self-care. Here are some of our favorite approaches to self-care.
We may be following social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t able to stay connected! Organize a digital coffee time or happy hour with your friends or family. Keep it cheerful and tell each other something good that happened to you lately. Talk about plans for when you can see each other again and how wonderful it will be to give them a big, warm hug. Together we are better and can support each other. That’s what friends are for!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Draft a schedule for your day but let there be some flexibility. For example, set an alarm for around the same time every morning and get ready for bed around the same time every night. Outline your objectives for the day and plan out your work projects, but make some time for your daily workout, a walk around the neighborhood, or to read your favorite book. Don’t be too severe with your plan that you create unnecessary stress. Creating a balance between routine and relaxation will help you have a more constructive and enjoyable day.
Thankfulness is good for us. The more gratitude we extend to others during tough times, the better and more resilient we become. Provide others grace. One of our preferred ways to carry out gratitude is to contact a loved one and let them know how much you cherish them. A a simple note is also a welcome and unexpected surprise that is guaranteed to make a person’s day.
There’s not a thing better than spending time outside, taking in the fresh air. Take a stroll with your pet or family every day after lunch. Say hello to your neighbors (from a physical distance) and see how they’re holding up. Stand in the sunlight for 10 minutes and practice taking intentional breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out to dinner at our favorite places doesn’t mean we can’t savor a good meal! Create a new recipe for dinner and make your meals feel like an event. Turn up your favorite song, get the kids in on the process, and have a fun time with it!
